What is a good on base percentage?

A good on base percentage (OBP) is a statistical measure used in baseball that represents the percentage of times a batter safely reaches base (i.e. gets a hit, walks, or is hit by a pitch) out of their total plate appearances. A high OBP indicates that a batter is skilled at getting on base and is an important aspect of a hitter's overall performance. Generally, an OBP of .400 or higher is considered excellent, while an OBP below .300 is considered poor. It is often used in conjunction with other statistics, such as batting average and slugging percentage, to evaluate a player's overall offensive performance.
